Brunch has always been my favorite meal—it’s that perfect balance of indulgence and relaxation, where you can enjoy a slow morning, sip on a rich cup of coffee, and savor every bite. When I finally got to experience brunch at Circa 1900, I knew I was in for something special.
The moment I stepped in, I was welcomed by the restaurant’s warm yet elegant ambiance. Sunlight streamed through the windows while the gentle hum of conversation filled the air. The inviting aroma of freshly prepared dishes only added to the anticipation.
To kick off my meal, I opted for the Puto Oriental—Negros Oriental’s famous puto, served with peanut butter dressing and sikwate (traditional Filipino hot chocolate). The combination was simply divine—the subtle sweetness of the puto maya, the nutty richness of the peanut butter, and the velvety chocolate sikwate created a perfect harmony. It was a comforting and flavorful way to begin my brunch journey.
The Ultimate Brunch at Circa 1900
For the main course, I couldn’t resist the Cicada Ultimate Breakfast—a grand spread featuring artisan bread slices, eggs, crispy bacon, BBQ ribs, hash browns, Hungarian sausage, and roasted sweet potatoes with garlic rice. Every bite was indulgent and satisfying, making it the ultimate brunch feast.
I also sampled the English Skillet Breakfast. It delivered everything you’d expect from a classic brunch plate—perfectly cooked eggs, juicy Hungarian sausage, crispy hash browns, smoky bacon, and baked beans that tied all the flavors together.
Next, I took a forkful of the Breakfast Sugbo, a beautifully crafted Cebuano breakfast featuring danggit, chorizo, tocino, eggs, atchara, and garlic rice—a true taste of local tradition.
Curious to explore more, I tried the Shakshouka—a dish of poached eggs in a rich, spicy tomato sauce with peppers, onions, and garlic. The bold flavors were both comforting and satisfying, making it one of my personal favorites of the day.
Sweet Treats to End on a High Note
And then came dessert—arguably the best part of any brunch experience! I couldn’t resist the Champurrado with a chocolate dome. Watching the warm champorado melt through the glossy dome made it even more indulgent.
I also had the chance to try the Cicada Fluffy Pancakes, soft blueberry pancakes topped with Bohol Bee Farm ice cream and drizzled with maple syrup. Every bite was a delightful mix of warm, fluffy, and sweet flavors.
To top it all off, I took a bite of the Pork Cutlet in Waffle—a perfect fusion of crispy, deep-fried pork draped in a creamy mushroom sauce, sitting on a light and fluffy waffle. The mix of savory and sweet was absolutely spot on.
A Brunch to Remember
What I loved most about brunch at Circa 1900’s Cicada Restaurant was how effortlessly perfect everything felt—the exquisite food, the relaxed yet stylish ambiance, and the way each dish was crafted to be an experience, not just a meal. It’s the kind of place where time slows down, where every bite is meant to be savored, and where brunch truly becomes a moment to indulge.
Cicada Brunch is available Fridays to Sundays from 7 AM to 2 PM at Circa 1900, Sanjercasvil Road, Gorordo Avenue, Lahug, Cebu City. Whether you’re a brunch enthusiast or just looking for a new culinary experience, this is one weekend tradition you don’t want to miss!
