When I started as a foodie in my early twenties, I always start my meal with a sinful dessert to jumpstart a fun food trail wherever I go. Well, that’s how our family’s way of dining LOL. Since then, I’ve always been on the lookout for the best chocolate cake or the best dish in the places I go to and always mark that location by heart.
LOVE AT FIRST BITE: YOU HAD ME AT FUDGE!
Years ago, my sister treated the family out for desserts in Fudge Restaurant in A.S. Fortuna Street, Mandaue. She excitedly vouched for this interesting chocolate lava cake that is by far the most unique dessert she has had. So that’s what we ordered first along with other desserts.
My first dibs with the chocolate lava cake was indeed memorable because it was so decadently rich in chocolate flavor and surprisingly it wasn’t too sweet. So, eating the whole cake isn’t that overwhelming.
A LIFE WITH FUDGE AS A FOODIE
For years, Fudge has become my go-to dessert place when I’m in the mood for something sweet, the original lava cake never fails to satisfy my cravings. It has also become a special place for celebrations or reunions with friends.
My boyfriend and I celebrated our first month together as a couple five years ago with Strawberry Trifle since we both love ice cream. Afterward, we brought a slice of cheesecake delight to the cinema. Yes, it’s always our thing to bring a cake to the movies.
The Fudge Restaurant is also a place where I find solace in my sulking moments. With just one bite of Fudge Choco Cake, it gives me an immeasurable warmth and comfort that turns my bad day to a better one.
Then COVID19 happened and the whole city was under quarantine. Staying at home for months with a lot of uncertainties brought out the worst anxiety in me. So I turn to food every single day knowing that it will put me in a happy place.
FIRST DIBS WITH NEW FUDGE TREATS
Imagine my excitement and sheer joy when I got a delivery from Fudge Restaurant! As I opened the food package, I was so happy to see new food items which I haven’t tried yet.
The first two things I’ve tried were their chocolate crinkles and butter cookies. I was quite surprised how moist and chewy the crinkles were. I love how its rich chocolate flavor teases my palates. It is some sort of an invitation to have more bites of the delicious chocolate crinkles.
The butter cookies were a complete contrast to the crinkles. The subtle yet creamy taste is like the cookies stored in blue-colored tin cans that I’ve had growing up. Every bite gives you a feeling of “home” where it reminds you of that special childhood memory and my sister agrees with me.
I was impressed by the Linguini Pesto for it’s a burst of flavors in one bite! The pasta was juicy yet it wasn’t greasy, at all. My father even surprised me when he kept on raving how tasty the pasta was since he’s always fond of tomato sauce. Coming from him, that means a lot.
The Humba Saucer was an interesting sandwich. I never thought the famous Cebuano favorite Humba can be a good sandwich filling. It’s juicy, flavorful, and meshed perfectly well with the potato fries. Also, the best part of eating it was dipping the Humba Saucer with catsup! Try it, it’s an enjoyable treat.
True enough, the well-loved pastry shop is not just a dessert shop but it also offers mouth-watering and tummy-filling snacks and meals enough to satisfy your cravings.
