Years ago, my father once let us taste a not so ordinary dish. An ox-tongue dish called Lengua Estofada. I was skeptic at first to try because it was something new to me. However, when I tasted it, lengua had become one of my favorite dishes that I can never say no to. I love how tender it is and so deliciously rich in flavor.
So last Christmas Eve, I started to crave for lengua and I remembered this Spanish restaurant in Guadalupe. Arano’s Restaurant serves one of the best-tasting lengua in town. So, I called the restaurant and ordered for two tubs for pick-up. The lengua is priced at Php 150 for every tub.
When I arrived at the restaurant, I got to talk with the son of the owner while they were still packing my order. I told him that my high school barkada and I once had our reunion dinner in their restaurant around 2006. I even showed him a photo of us with his father when we had our dinner in 2006. Too bad, he mentioned that his father had passed away years ago.
WHY I LOVE ARANO’S LENGUA
Time for our Christmas eve dinner with the family, I immediately topped my rice with the lengua and “devoured” the whole thing with a lot of gusto! I made sure that I left some for tomorrow’s breakfast.
The lengua is generously smothered with its savory sauce and the ox-tongue is perfectly tender. The kind that simply melts in your mouth when you chew it. Then when you warm it the next day, it’s even more delicious and appetizing. Like they always say, “sa sauce pa lang, ulam na.” That’s what I love about Arano’s lengua.
If you haven’t tried the lengua from Arano’s Restaurant in Guadalupe, Cebu, it’s time you should order one and trust me, one tub is not enough!
