Whenever someone asks me where to bring their guests for a truly delicious Filipino meal, my answer has always been the same: Cafe Laguna, the Filipino restaurant in Cebu. It isn’t just a dining spot for me—it’s a place where so many of my life’s memories are rooted.
Family Traditions and Timeless Flavors at Cafe Laguna
I grew up with Cafe Laguna being our family’s go-to restaurant. Whenever relatives from neighboring provinces visited, we would bring them there. I still remember one time I had clients from Manila—I brought them to Laguna Garden, and they enjoyed the food so much that they asked to return the very next evening. That’s the magic of Cafe Laguna—it never fails to impress.
Through the years, it has become our family’s staple for classic Filipino dishes. Whether we were celebrating something big or just grabbing dinner after shopping or a movie, Cafe Laguna was always part of the plan. My Dad and I had this little tradition of Monday movie dates, and without fail, lunch at Cafe Laguna was always included.
Love Served on the Table
Even my love life has ties to this restaurant. When my boyfriend and I were still new to dating, I brought him there so he could try my family’s favorite dishes—and now, it has become our favorite date spot too. Honestly, Cafe Laguna feels like an extension of our home kitchen because of how familiar and comforting everything is, from the food to the warm service of the staff.
Keeping Cafe Laguna Traditions Alive at Home During the Pandemic
During the pandemic, when dining out wasn’t possible, we still made sure Cafe Laguna was part of our celebrations. For its 29th anniversary, we ordered our favorites and set them on our dining table at home. My dad, who usually spends his birthdays at the restaurant, got to enjoy his favorite bouillabaisse even in quarantine.

From Childhood Favorites to New Discoveries
Looking back, I realize just how much I’ve grown alongside Cafe Laguna. When I was younger, I adopted my family’s favorites—chicharon bulaklak, bouillabaisse, laing, lechon kawali, and SMT (suman, mangga, at tsokolate).

Later, as I started exploring food on my own, I discovered new favorites like Bistek Tagalog, fresh lumpia, and palitaw.

When I got into food blogging, I was introduced to even more delightful surprises—biko pops, cabcab, kinilaw, crispy kangkong, sinigang na salmon, and even chewy brownies from their catering menu. Who knew brownies could steal the spotlight at a Filipino feast?

Why Cafe Laguna Will Always Feel Like Home
Cafe Laguna has been there for me through family milestones, relationship “kilig” moments, and my own food adventures. I can honestly say it has shaped my love for Filipino cuisine and continues to be a part of my journey.
No wonder locals, balikbayans, and even foreigners keep coming back. Cafe Laguna has remained consistent in serving flavorful dishes that feel like home, paired with the warmest service that makes every guest feel special.

For me, Cafe Laguna isn’t just a restaurant—it’s a part of my story. From my younger foodie days to now, it has grown with me, and it will always have a place in my heart (and stomach!). Here’s to 34 amazing years of Cafe Laguna—and many more to come!
