The rainy season brings with it a slew of cravings. In my case, I enjoy carbs, coffee, and even salad as a side dish. I know it’s an unusual combination, but it satisfies my cravings on a rainy day.
On a dreary Monday, I was craving pastries and coffee so I decided to eat after my grocery run. I went to SM Seaside to check out the newly opened Abaca Baking Company.
Abaca, fortunately, is located at the Mountain Wing. It is the location of my usual bus stop on my way home. It’s a good idea that it’s closer to the waiting area. So, if I get hungry while waiting for the bus, I can get some takeout before heading home.
I chose a full hearty meal after carefully reviewing the menu because I hadn’t had any brunch. I chose a bowl of herb chicken salad with creamy ranch dressing and a tuna and mayo sandwich. Afterward, I paired it with a cool refreshing lemonade.
It’s fun to order sandwiches at Abaca because you get to “make” them yourself by picking your favorite bread, filling, toppings, and sauce.
When they brought my order, I was utterly amazed to see such a large sandwich. Obviously, I was only able to consume half of it.
A NEW FAVE: SPAM AND HIJIKI FRIED RICE
Jewel, one of the managers, asked if I liked the food. I told her how much I appreciate how large their portions are. I hadn’t tried their rice bowls yet, she suggested I try their Spam and Hijiki Fried Rice.
Hands down, their fried rice is one of the best I’ve tasted. The scrambled egg is soft and creamy, which complements the furikake rice perfectly. And I like how thick and juicy their Spam slices are.
THERE’S ALWAYS ROOM FOR DESSERTS AND COFFEE!
What better way to cap off a meal than with something sweet? I was about to order a chocolate cake when I noticed someone ordering waffles, so I asked for a Banana Pecan Buttermilk Waffle. Jewel also recommended that I try their ABC coffee.
I’ve always been a fan of the banana-nut combination. It never fails to enhance the flavor of waffles or pancakes. Fortunately, they didn’t smother the waffle in whipped cream.
The triple ristretto latte was the perfect complement to my hearty brunch. Its light sweetness is what I love about it. Although the flavor is more concentrated, it isn’t bitter, which is something I always look for in coffee. I will definitely order the ABC coffee on my next Abaca foodtrail.
Overall, I was pleased with my Abaca SM Seaside experience. My bedweather cravings were satisfied even more. And I value the staff’s attention to detail and their familiarity with food pairings. Thank you Jewel, Kent, Charmie, and Cleto for the exceptional service.
