Last December, this new cafe across from the hair salon I went to caught my eye. Funny enough, I never got around to checking it out until just recently. What grabbed my attention was their unique blue coffee cup. I’ve never seen a cafe use my favorite color before, so it immediately added to the appeal. But what blew me away was their one-of-a-kind concept and vibe. HueMann Cafe is a German coffee brand bringing the rich German coffee culture to Cebu, which is quite different from the Filipino coffee culture we are used to.

EMBRACING MINIMALISM AT HUEMANN CAFE
The moment I stepped foot inside the cafe, I couldn’t help but notice how simple yet charming the interior was. The cafe has these cute white wooden blocks, giving off this basic minimalist vibe. It’s not the kind of place where you’d lounge around for hours, but it’s perfect for grabbing a cup of coffee, some pastries, or light snacks while having meaningful conversations with your friends.

FOSTERING GENUINE “HUEMANN” INTERACTION
In Germany, coffee isn’t just about the drink itself. It’s a social gathering where people disconnect from their devices and connect through conversation. And that’s exactly the message HueMann Cafe wants to convey to its customers. Unlike most cafes, you won’t hear loud music blaring or the sound of keyboards being furiously typed on. Nope, they’re all about creating a space for genuine human interaction.
I know not everyone is used to this setup, so Hue|Mann has made some adjustments to cater to all kinds of customers. They now have conventional chairs and tables for those who prefer to work on their laptops while sipping their drinks and munching on their food. Plus, have plenty of outlets and unlimited wifi service, so you can stay connected if you need to.
DELIGHTFUL COFFEE AND CULINARY EXPERIENCE AT HUEMANN CAFE
When it comes to coffee, HueMann Cafe uses 100 percent Arabica beans sourced from Europe. This selection provides a rich and flavorful coffee experience. In addition to their coffee, they serve a variety of pastries, light snacks, and even rice meals. The menu is carefully curated to perfectly complement their coffee and satisfy the cravings of food lovers. Despite the high quality of their offerings, the prices remain affordable because of their generous serving, making it accessible to a wide range of customers.
I visited the cafe on two occasions to fully explore their menu. During my first visit, I decided to cool down with an iced coffee due to the summer heat. I ordered the sea salt latte and a light snack, opting for the grilled cheese steak sandwich. The staff also suggested trying their new addition, the lasagna. As I had a long day ahead, I thought indulging in some comfort food would be a good idea.
The sea salt latte pleasantly surprised me. The cream’s saltiness perfectly complemented the coffee, balancing out its bitterness. It was a delightful combination.
Although the grilled cheese steak sandwich appeared thin and “light,” it was surprisingly filling. The generous amount of beef and cheese made each bite satisfying. As a meat lover, I appreciate sandwiches that aren’t skimpy on the meat, and this one did not disappoint. The cheese and beef created a delicious steak sandwich.
The lasagna, however, was different from what I expected. Unlike the usual creamy and layered dish, this one was covered in meat and cheese. The taste was unique to me. I typically enjoy Filipino-style pasta and lasagna, which tend to be sweet and creamy. The lasagna at Hue Mann was the opposite, with a meaty sauce and a touch of cheese sauce that made it flavorful and filling. I wouldn’t categorize it as a light snack, as it left me too full for dinner. I plan to try their carbonara next time, as it’s one of their best-sellers.
On my second visit, after having lunch with my sister, I made a detour and returned to HueMann Cafe for some sweets and coffee. This time, I ordered the white choco mocha and the dark choco mocha. Since I enjoy pairing my coffee with something sweet, I also ordered their triple chocolate croissant. Christopher, who took my order, was incredibly helpful and recommended that I try the white choco mocha with ice and the dark choco mocha served hot. I followed his advice, and both coffees turned out to be excellent choices.
The dark choco mocha paired perfectly with the croissant, creating a delightful bittersweet experience in my mouth. Don’t be fooled by the name “triple chocolate” – the sweetness of the croissant was not overwhelming. I thoroughly enjoyed this combination. The iced white choco mocha was a great way to conclude my visit to Hue|Mann.
