When I was in Manila two months ago, I keep seeing food places with Beef Pares on their signages. I was curious of the dish and asked my sister about it. Beef Pares is a Filipino braised beef stew with garlic fried rice, and a bowl of clear soup. It is a popular specialty among roadside eateries in Manila and now is starting to pick up here in Cebu.
TRES PARES HILTON
Last weekend, I was out with my boyfriend and my friends for a late dinner and we checked out the new Pares food place, Tres Pares Hilton in Tres de Abril Street, Punta Princesa (across SeaOil gas station). The place is small which calls for a more chill and intimate dining experience. Kung sa Bisaya pa, “inato” style which makes the customers feel more at home and enjoy their food even more.
Tres Pares Hilton has a limited menu size which is a good thing because it helps customer to decide easily what they want to eat. And I also believe the idea of quality over quantity. You can tell that the owners are serving nothing but their specialty beef pares with side dishes to boast of.
It is my first time to try beef pares. So, I didn’t have any basis for comparison. The beef broth and how each ingredient complementing each other will be my gauge whether it is a good dish or not.
FIRST DIBS WITH BEEF PARES
Can’t help but notice how appetizing their plating is! Makes you remember those healthy bowls that you see in Instagram. The aroma teasing you was also a good mood setter for someone who’s craving a good meal. When I first took a sip of the stew, it was savory and you can spot directly how the spices meshed well with the shredded meat and fat. What’s more interesting is that Tres Pares Hilton is using Angus beef fat in their beef pares special. This explains when I chewed on the fat, it wasn’t overwhelming. The noodles complemented well with the broth and it was cooked just right. The beef pares is originally served with rice. However in Tres Pares Hilton, you can have the option of having your beef pares with either rice or noodles. Well, rice is LIFER so I had both!
There are also side dishes available in their menu: pork chop, ngohiong, and stuffed egg. They are perfect for the beef pares special. Sure enough, it gives you the most filling treat in one sitting.
I already tried the ngohiong from Boy Ngohiong and I simply love how consistent it is. It is still delicious, flavorful and got the right crisp which doesn’t hurt your gums unlike the other ngohiong I’ve tasted from other joints. They also have their best-tasting ngohiong sauce. Double the goodness, I should say.
Mark’s stuffed eggs didn’t change a bit at all. It is packed with ingredients — egg and meat without any extenders. This makes the stuffed egg so filling in every bite.
Over-all I had the ultimate beef pares experience. The beef pares special may not be your regular cheap dish available in other joints but at Php85 per bowl, you get your money’s worth. I recommend this place to be added in your next foodtrail. They are open from 11AM to 9PM on Mondays to Saturdays.
